Zaleplon Usage
Zaleplon 20 mg is used for the short term treatment of sleeplessness problem or insomnia. It is a hypnotic agent and this medicine works by depressing the central nervous system which causes drowsiness to fall asleep.
Do not use Zaleplon if-
- You are allergic to Zaleplon
- You are taking GHB
Speak to your physician or health care provider immediately if any of these apply to you.
What should you do before using Zaleplon-
Like other medicines Zaleplon sometimes interact with other medicines. If you are having any side effects after taking Zaleplon tell your doctor or pharmacist. If you have some of the following medical conditions then consult with your doctor-
- If you are pregnant
- If you are planning to become pregnant
- If you are breast feeding
- If you are taking any other prescribed medicine
- If you are having herbal treatment
- If you are allergic to medicine
- If you have a history of mental depression
- If you are allergic to foods
- If you have liver problem
- If you taking alcohol or drugs
- If you have breathing disorders
- If you are taking non-prescribed medicines
Some drugs interact with Zaleplon. Carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, or rifampin may decrease Zaleplon's effectiveness. This is not a complete list of medicines that interact with Zaleplon. So tell your health care provider if you are taking any of the medicine or ask them for more information. Always consult with your doctor before starting or changing or stopping any medicines.
Dosage of Zaleplon-
Zaleplon must be taken as directed by your doctor. The exact dosing information can be found in the label on the medicine.
- Read the medication Guide which comes with the pack of Zaleplon. Read the medicine guide very carefully. When you get Zaleplon refilled read it again each time.
- You can take Zaleplon with or without food.
- Take Zaleplon by mouth.
- Do not take Zaleplon with high fat or heavy meal. Otherwise it can decrease the effect of Zaleplon.
- It works very fast so Zaleplon should be taken immediately before going to bed. If you are having trouble falling asleep after going to bed then you can take it immediately.
- You should not take Zaleplon if you are sleeping properly.
- Do not take the medicine unless you are prescribed
- Do not increase the doses without consulting with your health care providers.
- If you miss a dose the try to get back to the regular dosing schedule skipping the missed dose. But do not overdose. Also never take 2 doses at the same time.
- Zaleplon can be found 20mg or higher. But do not change your dose. Ask your health care provider first.
- If you are addicted to sleeping pill then consult with a psychiatrist.
